About This Dataset
Vermont (VT) has 302 ZIP Code Tabulation Areas (ZCTAs) as defined by the US Census Bureau. This dataset covers all of them — from high-density urban ZIP codes in Burlington and South Burlington to rural and suburban areas across Vermont's Northeast geography.
Vermont has the highest percentage of small-population ZIP codes in the Northeast. This makes accurate, ZIP-level data especially valuable for businesses and researchers focused on rural broadband and tourism analysis.
The demographic core of this dataset comes from the US Census Bureau's American Community Survey (ACS) 5-year estimates (2019–2023 vintage, published December 2024) — the gold standard for ZIP code-level statistics. The 5-year estimates pool five years of survey responses to produce reliable numbers even for small or low-population ZIP codes, which is especially important in Vermont's rural areas.
Flood zone classifications come from the FEMA National Flood Hazard Layer (NFHL).
